Advisory Opinion on the Status of Palestinian Statehood after GA Resolution 67/19 (Nov 29, 2012). Voting by an overwhelming majority — 138 in favour to 9 against (Canada, Czech Republic, Israel, Marshall Islands, Micronesia (Federated States of), Nauru, Panama, Palau, United States), with 41 abstentions — the General Assembly had accorded Palestine non-Member Observer State status in the United Nations.The legal reasoning embodied in an Advisory Opinion reflects the Court's authoritative views on important issues of international law and, in arriving at them, the Court follows essentially the same rules and procedures that govern its binding judgments delivered in contentious cases submitted to it by sovereign states.
